The Gap Nobody Was Filling

If you’re a business owner generating between $3 million and $50 million in revenue, you already know the problem. You’re too big for business brokers who treat your company like a listing on a bulletin board. You’re too small for the Wall Street investment banks to return your phone calls. And you’re stuck in between, making one of the most consequential decisions of your professional life with inadequate support.

That gap is why Icon Business Advisors exists.

I’m Daniel Askew. I’ve spent 25 years building, scaling, and selling businesses — from a real estate brokerage that grew to $125 million in sales in four years, to a national franchise network that hit #118 on the INC 500, to a vertically integrated holding company that served over 2,400 families and generated $450 million in revenue across real estate, mortgage, title, and service businesses.

Through all of that, I learned something that stuck: the people who helped me the most weren’t the ones with the fanciest credentials. They were the ones who had actually done it — operators who understood the weight of payroll, the complexity of growth, and the emotional reality of letting go of something you built from nothing.

When it came time to figure out what was next for me, I didn’t want to become a consultant who hands you a report and disappears. I wanted to be the advisor I always needed — someone who gets it because they’ve lived it.

What Icon Actually Does

Icon Business Advisors is a Nashville-based M&A advisory firm built specifically for the lower middle market. We help business owners sell their companies, raise growth capital, acquire businesses, plan exits, and build operational value — with the sophistication of an investment bank and the empathy of someone who has been in your chair.

Our core services include full sell-side M&A representation through Icon Exit, growth capital placement from $500K to $25M through Icon Capital, acquisition advisory and deal sourcing through Icon Deal Flow, strategic exit planning through our readiness programs, professional business valuations through Icon Toolkit, and hands-on management consulting through Icon Partner.

We pair those services with a tech-forward process that uses AI-enhanced tools, proprietary deal sourcing, and a network of 400+ boutique investment banks to give our clients access to opportunities and intelligence that would typically require a much larger firm.

Why the Lower Middle Market Matters

There are over 350,000 businesses in the United States generating between $3M and $50M in annual revenue. They employ millions of people. They anchor communities. They represent decades of work, risk, and sacrifice by the owners who built them.

And when those owners are ready to sell, raise capital, or plan their next chapter, they deserve better than what the market currently offers. They deserve an advisor who treats their business with the same seriousness that a $500 million deal gets — because to them, it’s worth everything.

That’s what we do at Icon. Not because it’s a clever market positioning. Because it’s real, it matters, and nobody else is doing it well enough.
